Weekly Focus: Wrap-it Technique
Through analyzing patterns I noticed that all tangle patterns consist of shapes and techniques. One technique is the “Wrap-It” technique. I have collected all the patterns from the website that use it and placed them in this category:
It’s one of my favorite ways to play with shapes.
You can wrap around a circle, spiral, loop, or even a dot.
When you look at the full list of patterns that use this technique, you will soon notice the similarities.
And here we have a new pattern by Tricia Long created just for this write-up:
All patterns in the pattern focus this week will revolve around step-outs that incorporate the Wrap-It technique.
Wishing you a lovely weekend!
Hugs,
Ina
Dear Ina, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all your hard work putting together these weekly emails. I really enjoy receiving them and try to have a go at the techniques whenever I can.
Thanks very much
Lots of love Hilary C xx
Thanks so much, Hillary!
So, so many beautiful and fun doodles. Something to play with for days!!! Thanks so much for sharing.
thanks, I really love these posts! I’m learning how to draw individual tangles, but what I can’t find anywhere is a list of tips and tricks to help combining patterns to make art. Could you help out? I’m sure others would appreciate the tips too!
Thank you, Anne. The reason why you can’t find a post that specifically tells you how to combine patterns is, you can combine any pattern. And sometimes exactly that is the challenge. I highly recommend that you start a drawing and pick 2 random patterns. Create a simple template using an X for example. Now repeat the 2 patterns. You will see, they do fit together. Slowly increase the challenge and try with 3 patterns. Another way to learn is, look at artwork that you like. Use the same template, but replace the patterns with something similar. For example, if the artwork contains a grid-based pattern, use a different grid-based pattern in your artwork.
