News, new patterns, videos, and template of the week

Hello everyone!

This week we published 18 new patterns and added 8 new video links to the site.

You might have missed the post where I explained another CPT Technique: Expand. Patterns are all made up of cleverly arranged shapes with added techniques. Existing patterns can be used for inspiration. By adding the different techniques to a pattern, you can create your very own version of it.

Base patterns are especially useful starting points when you feel like playing around a bit. Why should you play and not just follow step by step instructions? You want to engage the right hemisphere of the brain in order to increase creativity and imagination. The more you activate the half of the brain that is responsible for creative thinking, the more balanced the brain activity will become. And that affects all aspects of life. Suddenly you will not only see logical ways to deal with a problem, for example, but creativity will also play a role. And just like any other muscle in your body that needs exercise, your brain needs exercise too in order to maintain or grow itself.

How should I get started?

Before you start, spend a bit of time smiling. Yes, just smile 🙂 This will produce a ton of happiness chemicals in your brain. Force yourself to happiness! 🙂 No matter how you feel right now, putting a smile on your face will make you happier.

Grab a piece of scrap paper or maybe dedicate a page in your art journal. Pick a base pattern and apply the different CPT Techniques to this pattern. Don’t worry about doing it right or wrong. It also doesn’t matter if you suddenly come up with a pattern that already exists. It’s YOUR journal and YOUR version of a pattern that you are creating. Once satisfied, create your artwork or pick a CPT Template and fill a section of it with your pattern.

When the artwork is complete, share it with the rest of us on our Facebook page. You will get likes and you will receive comments. This, in turn, will release more hormones including dopamine and serotonin and lower your heart rate and blood pressure.

Have a great weekend!
