Tanglish Groups:
Tanglish term Description
ATC

Artist Trading Card. Measures 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches made of card stock.

Aura

… means drawing an outline around a shape or pattern.

Barb strings

Combining multiple strings on one page. The term was created after Barb Masinton introduced her artwork using multiple strings on one page.

Bijou

2″ x 2″ piece of card stock

CC

Constructive Criticism or Caring Critique.

CZT

Certified Zentangle® Teacher (# after CZT means class they graduated from Zentangle® school).

Deconstruct

Take a pattern apart into simple steps.

Duotangle

Creating a tile using only TWO patterns.

Echo Line

Aura vs Echo Lines

Eraser

A tool to add highlights to your shading.

Filler

A pattern that can expand to fill an entire area.

Gems/Gemmies

A coloring technique used on various patterns to brighten tangled artwork. Shapes are colored to look like gems.

Inchie

1″ x 1″ piece of card stock.

Meditative Drawing

Mindful repetition of the same strokes.

Mistake

… the chance to turn an oops into something amazing.

Monotangle

Creating on tile using only ONE pattern with different variations.

Newbie

A term used to refer lovingly to new people.

Opportunity

The chance to turn an oops into something amazing. (This is from the mouth of my CZT).

Opus Tile

10″x10″ paper ( and very hard to get a hold of and expensive FYI!).

Orb

= circle (for those that use a translator tool).

Renaissance tile

Renaissance are tan tiles.

Reticula/Fragments

Reticula being the GRID or an empty space that can be filled with fragments. Not exactly the same as a segment of a string to be filled with tangles. Fragments being the block of a pattern used to fill the grid.

Shading

Adding dimension to a pattern by using pencil lines to simulate shadows.

Stacked

Placing one row of a pattern onto the next row of another pattern.

Step-out

Step-by-step instructions on how to draw a pattern.

String

Light pencil guidelines dividing a tile into sections.

Tanglaholic

Describes a person addicted to tangling 🙂

Tangle

Tangle is also a verb. As in “I tangled today”.

Tangle-enhancer

Embellishments, such as Aura, Sparkle, etc.

Tangleation

Variation of a tangle/pattern.

Tangling

The act of drawing a pattern from a step-out.
