This weeks author focus is on one of our family members: Nicole Susanne Dreyer. Nicole has currently 6 patterns listed on pattern-collections. Click here to browse through them. What caught my attention were the templates she used last week. Nicole posted some of Ben Kwok’s tangled templates and further down she explains how she did that. Read on …. !
Let me introduce myself. My name is Nicole. I was born in Germany and live in The Netherlands since 2008, yeah I went there for the love of my live
Before tangling my hobbies where photography and creating with Photoshop (I still do that too).
I am actually not that long into tangling or painting. But I think deep inside me I was searching for an outlet for my creativity for a long time already. Always had the feeling I need or want to do something with pens and colors.
My tangling journey actually started with coloring books, because I love the possibility to paint and use colors to express myself.
But it was not enough for me, I wanted to create something myself. So I found my way to tangling. I searched for patterns to use and ended up on pattern-collections. From there I found my way to the Facebook site and was amazed with all the beautiful art I found!
I must say that it was the same for me as it is probably for a lot others too: a big step to display my creations. The positive responses make it easy to get motivated and show more and more
Never found groups which are so friendly and motivating like for example pattern-collections or other tangling groups. That keeps me going too
Sometimes I don’t feel creative, I guess this is normal. Stop painting because of that? No way! I discovered a nice possibility I want to share with you. It provides a good option for someone struggling to create their own and wants to apply different pattern combinations.
Templates! Yeah I think most of you know what is. I mean coloring pages which are lovely to color. Some of them are suitable for filling with patterns.
A well known creator of templates is Ben Kwok, but there are quite a few more (also free ones) which you can find using Google or Pinterest. You can find them using the keywords: template-coloring
I want to show you a few pictures from the process using a template from Ben Kwok.
It’s a cute rat (yeah I find rats cute, haha)
How to choose the patterns?
Well there are different ways I do it.
- Sometimes I just use the patterns which I feel really comfortable to use. Repeat them in the entire picture at different places.
- When I want to make it more challenging I try to use new patterns, look them up on pattern-collection, pinterest and so on.
- And sometimes I just pick without looking something up what I think should be used.
The choice of pattern makes a big difference in the outcome. You can let it be more organic or even like steampunk.
And here is some more artwork that I tangled with patterns:
To make this a special 2 weeks, I have created a template for tangling. Click the image for an enlarged view, right click and print or download. This template is featured as String 20.
